"All of which does not alter the fact that Pnin was on the wrong train"

I made this work for SPOOR Festival, along the Groene 62. This used to be old railroad line connecting Torhout to Ostend. The landscape surrounding the railroad — which is the landscape of my birthplace — is flat. For a long time, I thought this was a problem. The world seemed small, sound never reflected the way it did in the mountains, and the light appeared to fall straight down from the sky. Later, I found myself in Estonia. There too, it is flat, yet the light is softer, the sky mirrors in the bogs, and the forests tell stories. I believe those stories still exist in our cultivated, fragmented Flemish landscape, but they are harder to perceive.

Installation with 15 stills from video footage filmed between 2013 and 2025 in the Baltic States.
